Long Time, No Post

So, it's been over a month since I last posted. Much has happened, none of it extremely interesting or life-changing. To fast-forward to the present, here's my last month in a nutshell:

May 8th was Mike's 41st birthday. Our friends Mike and Sheri invited us to go to St. George and see Brian Regan, a very hilarious comedian we like (thanks to Bethany introducing us to his DVD "I Walked on the Moon.") We hiked somewhere around Silver Reef up some narrows as far as we could go without having to hike in the slot and get wet.

Here are Sheri and Denise at the start of our hike.

We drove home on Mother's Day, so we really didn't celebrate MY day. Megan gave me a magnet she made with a little note about things (she thinks) I am good at and that I like:

My mom is the best at making food
My mom and I like to bake cookies
My mom's favorite thing to do by herself is taking naps and reading
(hit the nail on the head!)
My mom is really happy when I make my bed and stay on task
If my mom could have any gift for Mother's Day, it would be for us to listen to her (Amen, sis!)

What a sweetheart. Now, if that could just translate into action :)

May 12 our Young Men/Young Women planted flowers at Temple Square in SLC. They filmed the kids for a DVD the church is making about service. It won't be out for a couple of years, but hey! it's still kind of cool!

May 15th was Megan's 9th b-day. She didn't have a party this year because she decided she wanted an electric scooter. So now she's motorized. She also loves her American Girl doll, and most recently has become obsessed with her yo-yo.

May 16th Danika had a dance performance in Logan. One of the dances was a modern dance to the song "Footprints in the Sand" by Leona Lewis. They had these groovy costumes that looked like those car wash rags that hang down and suds up your car, so we dubbed that dance "Car Wash."

Danika and Brooke also had their "Sleeping Beauty" ballet performance on May 25-26th. They are the two dancers on the left.

Brooke was a lady in waiting to the Queen and Danika was the Sapphire Fairy

Amongst all these events I was finishing up my year at my job at school, and preparing for Girls Camp, which is in two days!!!

School was out June 5th--oh happy day! Our first summer activity was tie-dying shirts with Danika's friend Kate. I ordered all the professional stuff from Dharma Trading http://www.dharmatrading.com/--a great website for anything to do with textiles. The colors are amazing and they don't wash out when you use the soda ash before dyeing and the fixative detergent to wash in afterwards.

One little bright spot was the robins who nested in a tree right out my kitchen window. I watched them daily, but unfortunately, our monster dog Trixie somehow got the 2 fledgelings when they were learning how to fly. It was a sad day, but they did bring me lots of happy thoughts that Spring was here while they were still alive.

And last but not least, I've been reading--The Hunger Games is my most recent favorite. If you haven't read it yet, run to the library and get it NOW! I also liked The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg, and I'm currently halfway through The Host. Next on my list is My Fair Godmother for our mom/daughter book club with Bethany and Maddie, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, and Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians.

Happy Summer!
