Summer Delights

It has rained pretty much every day of June, and now the sun is finally out. I perused my garden and things are coming along quite nicely. My tomatoes, onions, cilantro and squash are growing like topsy. I was surprised to see that the artichoke we planted last year now has a fruit on it. We tried it as an experiment, and read that they take two years to produce, and now it is! I'm assuming we are going to get two artichokes off the plant because I don't see any others--no wonder they are so expensive! (There is a smaller one right under the big one.) The plant is huge and takes up a lot of space, and considering that you only get a couple of artichokes every two years I'd say that is a pretty small return. Oh well, it's been fun to watch, and I hope they'll taste good when they're ripe.
